Colin Powell to Endorse Barack Obama?

Rumors are swirling that former Secretary of State General Colin Powell will endorse Barack Obama in a live TV interview on Sunday.

Powell, who was once widely speculated to run and become the country’s first black president worked on three Republican administrations.

But since leaving his post as Secretary of State in 2005, Powell has continually distanced himself from George W. Bush and the administration and Powell’ recently hinted that he’s leaning toward endorsing Democratic presidential nominee Obama, according to the Times Online.

In September, Powell said that electing a black president would send an “electrifying” message to the world.

However, Powell said that in the end he would choose a candidate based on the one who “blends a right measure of experience and judgment.”

Aides to Republican nominee John McCain have said that if Powell endorsed Obama it would be “personally embarrassing” for McCain, whom Powell has known socially for 25 years, according to the Times Online.

McCain’s aides also said that Powell endorsing Obama would “create momentum against us.”

Poor McCain. I think his entire run for president at this point is "personally embarassing" enough.
