Pentagon statistics obtained by University of California researchers show that lesbians are far more likely than gay men to be kicked out of the military under the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, the AP reported.
The data surrounding the findings was released Thursday by the Palm Center at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
In 2008, a disproportionate number of women were dismissed under the policy banning openly gay service members by every military branch. But the discrepancy was predominantly marked in the Air Force, where women were a majority of those discharged under the heavily disputed policy, even though they made up only a mere 20 percent of all personnel.
Across the board, women represented about one-third of the 619 people in the military discharged based simply on sexual orientation alone. They account for just 15 percent of all service members.
The "don't ask, don't tell" policy has been under observation by LGBT communities around the U.S. and is expected to be brought into the light at the upcoming National Equality March in Washington D.C.
