Rusty Gordon, a feminist and lesbian activist from West Palm Beach, died Tuesday night at her home.
Always pushing for equality, the courageous pioneer in the women's and LGBT movements, passed away after a long illness.
Pam's House Blend blog reported that her partner, Davy Whims, was by her side when she passed. A memorial service is being planned.
An early supporter of lesbian musical artists and a music producer in the 60's, Gordon began producing women's concerts and festivals in the 70's.
Gordon founded the Whimsey Political Clearinghouse in South Florida, with a focus on women's studies and LGBT issues. She was well known in NOW circles in South Florida and nationally and helped found the Florida GLBT Democratic Caucus. Last year she was named Chair Emeritus of the Caucus, after having served as its vice president for many years.
She will be missed. Rusty Gordon 1942-2009.
