Protesting Prop 8 a Year Later: A Pictorial

Following Tuesday's heartbreaking loss in Maine's battle to keep same-sex marriage equality, and for the one year anniversary of Califonia's passage of Prop 8,  protesters took to the streets of Los Angeles for a march and rally. The group stepped off at the junction of Vermont and Santa Monica Blvd. in Los Angeles' Silverlake neighborhood around 7:00 pm and marched to Le Barcito --which was the Black Cat --the historic spot where  gays first fought back against police brutality, even before the Stonewall riots.

A joyful noise of marchers, taking part in a New Orleans-style funeral, led a Prop 8 coffin through the streets. Participants were encouraged to bring home-made instruments, bells, drums, and kazoos, as well as any signs they wanted to display.
