A family court judge in Vermont issued a warrant for the arrest of "former" lesbian Lisa Miller Tuesday who disappeared with her 7-year-old daughter she once shared with her former partner, Janet Jenkins.
According to the Advocate, Judge William Cohen of Rutland County ruled that Miller was in contempt of the Vermont court for failing to turn over custody of daughter, Isabella, to Jenkins, as ordered.
Miller disappeared several months ago, and now the little girl is considered a missing person.
According to Jenkins' attorney, Sarah Star, the judge's order is essentially an arrest warrant for a misdemeanor. Jenkins must now hope that the state's attorney in Rutland will seek to file felony criminal charges against Miller. If he does, law enforcement officials in all 50 states will have the power to arrest Miller.
"I hope the judge's order today gives law enforcement the tools they need to find my daughter," Jenkins said after the hearing, holding up pictures of the girl, Isabella, and asking anyone who has seen her to contact police or the Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Miller and Jenkins were joined in a Vermont civil union in 2000. Isabella was born to Miller through artificial insemination in 2002. The couple broke up in 2003, and Miller moved to Virginia, became an evangelical Christian and soon after, "renounced" her homosexuality.
A Vermont judge had ruled that Miller was to transfer custody of the child to Jenkins on January 1st to Jenkins, but it never happened.
