BIG yoga fan!

I do yoga at a couple local Y's....it gives me the opportunity to try out different disciplines and teachers - without studio costs - it is well worth it.
My favorite is a teacher who is from the Kripalu tradition, but I also have Ashtanga, Iyengar, Hatha and Anusara teachers. I hope one day to teach too. I've only been practicing for less than a year, but the benefits both physically and mentally are amazing.
Feeling bendy is good :)

RE: Yoga fans?

As far as type, I probably do more ashtanga, but I tend to make my own free form out of the poses I like and that I can feel really work. The Quad Cities (eastern IA/western IL at the Mississippi) has a few yoga places, but they're all pretty much the same standard class. We DID just pick up a hot yoga class though that I've been dying to try :D

Hey yoga fans - looks like this thread has died but I'd love to revive it!

Do they have corepoweryoga in your cities/states - if so, you should check that sh*t out - I have been taking classes there for a couple years and I think it's such a fun way to get your yoga AND your workout in.

What other kinds of yoga do you guys practice? I also have practiced ashtanga vinyasa, bikram and anusara over the years ...

Hello,
Congratulations on taking up Yoga, it is nice to hear you are enjoying it. I like how it relaxes the mind and body. Plus I get to wear some cute little yoga outfits. I just wish I could learn to more flexible in order to help with some of the more difficult moves. Anyway good luck and happy exercising.

I took up yoga awhile ago and I absolutely love it! The full exercise of body, mind and spirit has hooked me like nothing else ever has. I especially love inverted positions...so fun. Any other yogis out there? What do you love about?

RE: Treadmill or Exercise Bike?

Thanks for the reply! I'm still weighing the options, but I think you sway me a bit toward the treadmill. I just think perhaps that is going to offer more variety.

Happily I also discovered there is a rather inexpensive Yoga studio only 3 blocks from my new apartment. So I'll also be looking to see if I can hook up with that. Flexibility is one of the primary areas I'd like to improve as I move toward that 35 mark!

RE: Treadmill or Exercise Bike?

Hi Rusalka,
It's a good question. I'm a bit of a clean freak, so a treadmill that can be hidden is a plus. Check to make sure that it's sturdy enough to take a good fast run as well as a slower speed on an incline. (lots of good 20 min. cardio routines that keep you walking, but do super inclines to get the heart rate up can do a good job and are better on the knees. I've got a treadmill and have a small tv to keep me interested in using it. I find that after a while, it's the repetition factor that stops me from using the same piece of equipment over and over.
If I were to get a bike I would get a good "spin" bike. You set up your routine to match song paces and there are some "virtual" tapes where someone takes you through a ride. Again it's the long term "interest" factor that will keep you going back to the equipment after the Honeymoon phase is over. Pat yourself on the back for wanting to include exercise in your routine and get what your really want. You deserve it!

Treadmill or Exercise Bike?

I'm looking to buy a piece of aerobic equipment for my house, because I'm just too lazy to get my butt to the gym half the time. I've narrowed it down to either one of those folding easy-to-store treadmills or an exercise bike. But I'm not sure which is going to be better long-term for my overall fitness level. Any thoughts from the fit grrls out there?
